Γεια σας! Είμαι η Ιωάννα και μένω στην Αθήνα. Λατρεύω τη
φύση και επειδή έχω την τύχη να ζω κοντά της, θέλησα να εκμεταλλευτώ αυτή την
ευκαιρία για να βάλω στην καθημερινότητά μου τα εξαιρετικά οφέλη των προϊόντων
της ελληνικής γης. Βασικός συνεργάτης μου η μητέρα μου Κατερίνα. Εκείνη ήταν
που με την πολύχρονη ενασχόληση, πείρα αλλά και γνώσεις με ενέπνευσε να
ασχοληθώ ενεργά με τα φυσικά καλλυντικά.
Αρχίσαμε λοιπόν να σπουδάζουμε κοσμητολογία, παραγωγή φυσικών
καλλυντικών και αρωματοθεραπεία. Έτσι
δημιουργήσαμε τη σειρά χειροποίητων καλλυντικών Herbalicious. Το αποτέλεσμα; Σπιτικά, φρέσκα
καλλυντικά, από αγνά υλικά, χωρίς χημικούς παράγοντες όπως Parabens
, SLS
, συνθετικά χρώματα και
αρώματα.
Tell us about yourself.
Hello! I’m Joanna and I live in
Athens. I love nature and since I’m lucky enough to be living close to it, I
wanted to make the most of it. Greek nature generously provides us with such an
amazing supply of pure ingredients, that I decided to use their properties in
my everyday life. My mother Catherine had been making natural cosmetics for
quite a few years and she inspired me to get involved as well.
We then decided to start studying
cosmetology, natural cosmetics production and aromatherapy. It was only natural
that we created our own homemade cosmetics. The result was
Herbalicious, in
other words handcrafted, fresh cosmetics made from the purest, most natural
ingredients without any harmful chemical ingredients such as Parabens, SLS,
synthetic colours or fragrances.

Η μητέρα φύση
βέβαια! Ένα αρωματικό βότανο από τον κήπο, η μεθυστική μυρωδιά ενός ανθισμένου
λουλουδιού, το έντονο χρώμα ενός ώριμου φρούτου, όλα δημιουργούν συνειρμούς για
καινούριες φόρμουλες.
What inspires you and where do your ideas come from?
Definitely Mother Nature! A
medicinal herb from our garden, the intoxicating fragrance of a flower, the
vivid colour of a ripe fruit, that’s what inspires us when creating new
formulas.
Γιατί κάποιος να αγοράσει κάτι χειροποίητο;
Γιατί το κάθε προιόν κρύβει μέσα του μια ολόκληρη
ιστορία. Κρύβει όλο το μόχθο και την αγωνία της καλλιέργειας για την παρασκευή
αρκετών από τις πρώτες ύλες που χρησιμοποιούμε. Κρύβει την αφοσίωση που θα μας
ωθήσει πχ να ξυπνάμε κάθε Μάιο τα ξημερώματα για να μαζέψουμε τα μπουμπούκια
της τριανταφυλλιάς, ώστε να εκμεταλλευτούμε στο έπακρο τις ιδιότητές τους. Επιλέγουμε
χειροποίητα καλλυντικά επειδή φτιάχνονται με μεγάλη προσοχή, μεράκι, σεβασμό
στις φυσικές (και μόνο) μεθόδους αλλά και βεβαίως βασίζονται και στις
επιστημονικές γνώσεις κοσμητολογίας. Είναι μεγάλη ευθύνη να φτιάχνει κανείς
τέτοια προιόντα και δεν θα μπορούσε ποτέ να βασιστεί μόνο σε εμπειρικές γνώσεις
και παραδοσιακές συνταγές.
Why should somebody buy handmade?
Because every single product has
got its own story and there’s so much that lies behind. There is the great
effort required when growing herbs, fruit and flowers, especially if you want
to use them as raw materials. There is dedication, and this for example will
make us wake up before sunrise every May, to handpick rose buds just in time to
make the most of their exquisite properties. Someone should buy handmade
cosmetics as they’re lovingly made with great attention, always respecting the
environment and only using natural practices and techniques. Let’s not forget
however that with natural cosmetics comes great responsibility and one should
never make cosmetics using traditional recipes or homemade remedies only. Scientific
knowledge and expertise is indispensable, so the formulas are based on both.

Κυρίως μέσω του Etsy αλλά και των social media
σε Facebook και Instagram. Έχουμε αρχίσει να λαμβάνουμε μέρος σε τοπικά bazaar
τώρα τελευταία και
η ενθουσιώδης αποδοχή μας δίνει ώθηση να συνεχίσουμε.
How do you promote your work?
Mainly through our
Etsy shop and
our social media on
Facebook and
Instagram. We have participated in a few local
craft fairs and bazaars lately and we received very positive feedback. That’s something
that encourages us to keep on working, creating and sharing.
Μίλησέ μας για το χώρο εργασίας σου.
Ο χώρος εργασίας δεν θα μπορούσε να βρίσκεται μακριά από
τον κήπο και το κτήμα. Έτσι έχουμε διαμορφώσει ένα εργαστήριο στο σπίτι με
διαφορετικούς χώρους για την παρασκευή των καλλυντικών με τον απαραίτητο
εργαστηριακό εξοπλισμό, την απόσταξη, την εκχύλιση, την αποξήρανση των βοτάνων
και λουλουδιών που έρχονται κατευθείαν από τον κήπο, τη φωτογράφιση, τη
συσκευασία και το σχεδιασμό ετικετών (ναι είναι και αυτά χειροποίητα)!
Tell us about your working space.
The working space couldn’t
possibly be far away from the garden and the farm. That’s why we have created a
fully equipped laboratory at home where we mix and match all these pure
ingredients to create new formulas, another space where we store and let the
flowers and herbs dry up naturally and another dedicated to the photo shoot,
the packaging and the design of labels (yes, these are made by us, too!)
Σε δέκα χρόνια από τώρα…
Ελπίζω να έχω παρουσιάσει μια πιο ολοκληρωμένη σειρά,
γιατί εκτός από αυτά που περιλαμβάνονται σήμερα στο Etsy, κρύβονται από πίσω
άλλα τόσα! Αν και μέχρι στιγμής τα προιόντα έχουν ταξιδέψει σε αρκετούς προορισμούς
από Αμερική μέχρι Νέα Ζηλανδία, εύχομαι να έχω καταφέρει να αναδείξω τους
θησαυρούς της ελληνικής φύσης σε μεγαλύτερο κοινό!
In 10 years time...
I hope to be able to present a
complete series of natural cosmetics, as there are many other products available
apart from those that are currently included in our Etsy shop. Even though
Herbalicious cosmetics have already traveled to quite a few places from the USA
to New Zealand, I truly wish to show off Greek nature’s treasures to a wider
audience!
