Etsy meet up - A recap


Στις 16/1 με πολυ μεγαλη μας χαρα υποδεχτήκαμε στην Αθήνα 2 στελέχη του Etsy.com την Μάρτα απο το ευρωπαικό τμήμα του Ετσυ και τον Άντριου απο τα κεντρικά της Νεας Υόρκης. Η πρώτη μας συνάντηση ορίστηκε το απόγευμα της ίδιας μέρας σε χώρο κεντρικού καφέ των Αθηνών και η προσέλευση (πλέον των 70 ατόμων) ξεπέρασε καθε προσδοκία. Στις 19.00 νέα μέλη της ομάδας αλλά και άτομα με ενδιαφέρον στο να ανοίξουν ενα διαδικτυακό μαγαζί εφτασαν και αφού βολευτήκαμε στο χώρο έγινε μια πρώτη γνωριμία με το Ετσυ, τι ακριβώς ειναι και πως μπορεί κάποιος να ανοίξει ενα μαγαζί. Δοθηκαν αρκετές πληροφορίες, βασικές συμβουλές και απαντήθηκαν αρκετές απορίες.

 Μετά το τέλος του πρώτου μέρους στις 20.30 ξεκίνησε η συνάντηση με πιο έμπειρα μέλη του Ετσυ όπου οι απορίες αλλά και οι απαιτήσεις ήταν πιο συγκεκριμένες ενώ επίσης αναφέρθηκαν αρκετές ιδέες που θα μπορούσαν να διευκολύνουν την διατήρηση ενός μαγαζιού στο Ετσυ.

 Η συνάντηση ήταν εξαιρετικά πετυχημένη και οπως ειπαν και οι δυο admins εντυπωσιάστηκαν τόσο απο την προσέλευση, το επίπεδο της συζήτησης αλλά και αλλά και απο το πόσο δεμένοι είμαστε σαν ομάδα, γεγονός που εξέφρασαν και στο χαιρετισμό τους στο σχετικό φορουμ της ομαδας.

Andrew: Huge thanks to the team captains and leaders for helping to put this together at such short notice. We really loved getting to meet everyone on the team and are so impressed with how organized you are and how much you all help each other.

Να πούμε ενα μεγάλο ευχαριστώ στην Αντιγόνη και Αλέκα που ηταν υπεύθυνες για την διοργάνωση, στην Ναυσικά για την φωτογράφιση και βιντεοσκόπηση, στη Μάρω για τις μεταφράσεις, στην Γεωργία που έφτιαξε τα δυο δώρα για τους admins, στην Τατιάνα για την σχεδίαση των αφισών και σε ολα τα μέλη που ήρθαν στις συναντήσεις αλλά και δέχτηκαν στον χώρο τους την Μάρτα και τον Άντριου.
Ελπίζουμε και σε νέες συναντήσεις στο μέλλον!

On the 16/1 we were very excited to welcome to Athens Etsy.com admins Marta from the European branch of Etsy and Andrew from the Etsy headquarters at New York. Our first meeting took place on the same day, in the afternoon at a central cafe where the attendance (over 70 people) was impressive. At 19.00 new members and people interested in the opportunity of opening an online shop on Etsy arrived and after we got comfortable the discussion started with a description of how Etsy works and the basic information a person needs to know to start.

After the end of the first part at 20.30 more experienced team members took their seat and talked with Marta and Andrew asking them more specific questions and also proposing ideas that would make a sellers job easier. 

The meet up was very successful and both admins were very impressed by the turnout, the knowledge of Greek sellers and the strong bond of the team members, a fact that was acknowledged at the team forum by both admins.

A big thank you to Antigoni and Aleka for making sure everything went smoothly, to Nafsika who was responsible for taking photos and video taping the event, to Maro for translating whenever it was needed, to Georgia for creating our gifts to the two admins, to Tatiana for designing our posters and to all the team members that came to the meeting but also opened their workspaces to Marta and Andrew.
Hoping to more meetings like this in the future!

AW 2012-13: Fabric Pattern Trends

Hello lovelies,
hope you had all the fun in the world during the holidays. Winter is still strong, so before we go and jump into spring trends, I suggest we take a look at a fashion subject I'm quite fond of: textiles and fabric patterns.
I love fabric patterns, how classic patterns evolve, how they adapt to the current trends, how textile technology gives us new options to incorporate graphic design and digital prints to fashion design.

Πολυαγαπημένες -οι γεια σας,
ελπίζω να περάσατε όμορφα στις γιορτές. Ο χειμώνας είναι ακόμα εδώ και θα είναι για αρκετό καιρό ακόμα, οπότε λέω να μην περάσουμε στις ανοιξιάτικες τάσεις από τώρα. Προτείνω ένα θέμα που προσωπικά αγαπώ ιδιαίτερα: τα υφάσματα και το σχεδιασμό τους. Μου αρέσουν τα ντεσέν στα υφάσματα, πως αλλάζουν αναλόγως με τις εποχές, πως προσαρμόζονται στις τάσεις της μόδας, πως η νέα τεχνολογία δίνει νέες επιλογές για την ενσωμάτωση γραφιστικού σχεδίου και ψηφιακής εκτύπωσης στα ρούχα.


I have spotted 3 major fabric pattern trends in the autumn/winter collections.
First, this year's take on geometrical patterns. Textile design always loved geometry, this winter I found it loves rectangles and squares more than other shapes. Another thing to note is that small scale patterns prevailed on the runways. The colors were of a warm winter palette: red, orange, brown, dark pink and mustard.

Τρεις είναι οι κύριες τάσεις που εντόπισα στις επιδείξεις μόδας για το φθινόπωρο-χειμώνα 2012-13.
Πρώτα, η φετινή εκδοχή των γεομετρικών σχεδίων. Τα γεωμετρικά ντεσέν στα υφάσματα είναι πάντα παρόντα, φέτος τα τετράγωνα και τα παραλληλόγραμμα ήταν τα αγαπημένα των σχεδιαστών. Ένα άλλο χαρακτηριστικό τους: μικρή κλίμακα. Και τα χρώματα ζεστά, σκούρα, χειμωνιάτικα: κόκκινο, πορτοκαλί, καφε, σκούρο ροζ και μουσταρδί.

 Who said florals are only suitable for summer? Or that they are labeled "romantic-style" only?  Following are floral and flora-inspired textile patterns, that are winter-appropriate, modern and gorgeous. Whether they are used in a dress, a two piece suit or a pair of pants, they add charm and interest to classic garments.

Ποιος είπες ότι τα λουλουδάτα ντεσέν είναι κατάλληλα μόνο για το καλοκαίρι; Ή ότι είναι μόνο "ρομαντικού" στυλ; Στις επιδείξεις μόδας βρήκα πολλά γραφικά στοιχεία εμπνευσμένα από λουλούδια και από τη χλωρίδα, ντεσέν κατάλληλα για χειμώνα, μοντέρνα και πανέμορφα. Σε φορέματα, κοστούμια ή παντελόνια, σίγουρα προσθέτουν ένα διαφορετικό στυλ σε απλές γραμμές και κλασσικά πατρόν.

A fascinating textile design development of the latest years is digital printing. Photo-realistic, large scale, vibrant graphics can be printed on the textiles used for garments and designers exploit more and more this possibility. Either it's street graffiti (Jean Paul Gaultier), winter landscapes (Tsumori Chisato) or tattoo-inspired graphics (Manish Arora) you can't argue that the result is nothing less of stunning.

Η ψηφιακή εκτύπωση υφασμάτων είναι μια τασή που αναπτύσσεται διαρκώς τα τελευταία χρόνια και προσωπικά τη βρίσκω πολύ συναρπαστική και με πολλές προοπτικές. Φωτο-ρεαλιστικές εικόνες, μεγάλη κλίμακα, έντονα τυπωμένα γραφικά μπορούν πλεόν να εκτυπωθούν στα ρούχα και οι σχεδιαστές εκμεταλλεύονται αυτή τη δυνατότητα όλο και περισσότερο. Είτε είναι γκραφιτι δρόμου (Jean Paul Gaultier), είτε χειμερινά τοπία (Tsumori Chisato) ή σχέδια εμπνευσμένα από τατουάζ (Manish Arora), το αποτέλεσμα σε κάθε περίπτωση είναι εντυπωσιακό.

Home decor trends for 2013

Ξεκινάμε τη νέα χρονιά με μερικές προβλέψεις στο χώρο της διακόσμησης, θα δούμε προτάσεις που καλύπτουν τις τάσεις που θα κυριαρχήσουν στη διακόσμηση του εσωτερικού χωρου του σπιτιού.

 1. Μπρούτζος - Brass

Ο μπρούτζος επιστρέφει στη μόδα, με μερικά προσεγμένα κομμάτια από το υλικό αυτό μπορείτε να δημιουργήσετε ένα χώρο με λάμψη και στυλ.
Brass is back in this year's trends, its shiny surface adds glamour to a space just by adding a few key pieces!

2. Ταπετσαρίες με μοτίβα - Patterned wallpapers

Οι ταπετσαρίες επανέρχονται με ρέτρο σχέδια, έντονα χρώματα ή ρομαντικά φλοράλ μοτίβα καλύπτουν όλα τα γούστα και δίνουν μια φρεσκάδα στο χώρο.
Wallpapers are making a come back too, with retro designs, bright colors or romantic floral patterns there is a huge variety to cover every taste or style.

3. Πράσινο σμαραγδί - Emerald Green

Το χρώμα της χρονιάς απο την Pantone είναι το πράσινο σμαραγδί, μην παραξενευτείτε λοιπόν αν δείτε το βαθύ αυτό χρώμα αλλά και όλες τις αποχρώσεις του να κυριαρχούν στον κόσμο της εσωτερικής διακόσμησης.
Emerald green was named color of the year by Pantone, so don't be surprised to see not only this rich green but also other shades of green dominate the world of home decoration.
