Πες μας λίγα πράγματα για τον εαυτό σου.

Γεννήθηκα το 1980, μεγάλωσα στην Αθήνα, σπούδασα στο ΤΕΙ Αθήνας ‘‘Εσωτερική Αρχιτεκτονική, Διακόσμηση και Σχεδιασμός Αντικειμένων‘‘. Από μάθημα στην σχολή, άρχισα να ασχολούμαι και πρακτικά με τα ψηφιδωτά που αγαπώ ιδιαίτερα, αργότερα εργάστηκα για ένα χρόνο σε ένα εργαστήριο ψηφιδωτών, φτιάχναμε κυρίως για Ορθόδοξες εκκλησίες αλλά και αντίγραφα αρχαίων ελληνικών με την παραδοσιακή τεχνική! Σήμερα ζω κ εργάζομαι στην Aθήνα στον κλάδο του interior design, ψηφιδωτά φτιάχνω στον ελεύθερο μου χρόνο κ έχω ένα κατάστημα στο Εtsy όπου πουλάω κάποια μικρά διακοσμητικά ψηφιδωτά. 

Tell us a bit about yourself.

I was born in 1980, I grew up in Athens, and I studied Interior Design at the Technological Educational Institution of Athens. My first experience with mosaics was when I attended the mosaic class in Design School. Later I was member of a laboratory and we were making byzantine style mosaics for Orthodox churches, keeping the tradition of centuries! Now I live in Athens and I work in the field of interior design. When I have free time I make mosaics and I sell some of them in Etsy.

Τι σε εμπνέει και από πού παίρνεις ιδέες; 
Τα θέματα των ψηφιδωτών μου είναι από αρχαία και νεότερα ελληνικά σχέδια, ή δικές μου ιδέες. Μ αρέσει πολύ να κάνω χρωματικές συνθέσεις χωρίς συγκεκριμένη θεματολογία, χρησιμοποιώντας ως βάση διάφορα χρηστικά αντικείμενα, όπως είναι οι κρεμάστρες τοίχου, ξύλινα κουτιά, δίσκοι σερβιρίσματος, διακοσμητικές μπάλες και πολλά άλλα! Μεγάλη επιτυχία έχουν τα μικρά διακοσμητικά, με ψηφίδες μέσα σε τσόφλια από τους καρπούς ενός δέντρου! Είχα αυτούς τους καρπούς πολύ καιρό, αλλά σκέφτηκα να δοκιμάσω να φτιάξω κάτι όταν τους είδα στο Etsy με τσόχα και μου άρεσαν πάρα πολύ. Το τελευταίο διάστημα φτιάχνω ψηφιδωτά σε μπρούτζινα μενταγιόν! Τέλος θα έλεγα ότι αυτό που με εμπνέει είναι τα χρώματα, τα υλικά και το φως! 
What inspires you and where do your ideas come from?
The themes of my mosaics are from ancient and newer Greek designs, or my own ideas. Especially I like working with colors making compositions without depicting a specific figure. I make mosaics on various domestic objects, like wall hooks, wooden boxes, serving trays, decorative balls and many other! Something that I tried and turned out to be a success was my decorative seedpods! I had some of these seedpods a long ago before I saw them in Etsy, filled in with colored felt. I liked them so much that I decided to make mosaic in them! My last project is making mosaics on bronze pendants! So what really inspire me are the light and the colors!

Ποια είναι τα αγαπημένα σου υλικά;
Το αγαπημένο μου είναι το μάρμαρο γιατί είναι ένα υλικό που το βρίσκουμε στην φύση και η μόνη επεξεργασία που χρειάζεται είναι το κόψιμο! Η χρωματική ποικιλία είναι μεγάλη και η ποιότητα των μαρμάρων εξαιρετική! Αυτοί είναι και οι λόγοι άλλωστε που φημίζεται η Ελλάδα για τα μάρμαρά της. Και όλοι ξέρουμε ότι μένουν στην αιωνιότητα!

What are your favorite materials? 

My favorite material is the marble. Because it is natural and the only processing it needs is the cutting! Its color variation is wide and the quality excellent! After all, these reasons make Greece famous for the marbles! And we all know they last for centuries!

Γιατί κάποιος να αγοράσει κάτι χειροποίητο; 
Γιατί κάποιος ασχολήθηκε με προσοχή με το κάθε ένα αντικείμενο ξεχωριστά, και βέβαια δεν γίνεται να είναι όλα ίδια με ακρίβεια. Αυτό είναι που κάνει τα χειροποίητα μοναδικά!
Why should somebody buy handmade?

Because someone spends his time especially for each one object, and of course they can’t be all identical. That’s why they are unique!

Εκτός από το να δημιουργείς, με τι άλλο ασχολείσαι; 
Εκτός από το Interior Design και τα ψηφιδωτά, ασχολούμαι με αγιογραφία, κρητική λύρα, χειροποίητα σαπούνια, και τον κήπο μου! Μην αναρωτιέστε που βρίσκω χρόνο, δεν γίνονται όλα μαζί!
Apart from creating things, what do you do? 
Apart from Interior Design and mosaics, I draw Orthodox icons, I study a traditional instrument Cretan lyra, I make handmade soaps and of course I take care of my garden! Don’t wonder if I have enough time! One at a time!

How do you promote your work?

Μίλησέ μας για το χώρο εργασίας σου.
Προς το παρόν το εργαστήριο μου είναι λίγο περιορισμένο.. σε ένα δωμάτιο του σπιτιού μου!
Δεν χρειάζομαι ιδιαίτερο εξοπλισμό, μόνο ένα τραπέζι και μια λάμπα για να έχω σταθερό φωτισμό. Απαραίτητα εργαλεία είναι η πένσα για το κόψιμο των ψηφίδων και η λαβίδα για να τοποθετώ με προσοχή την κάθε ψηφίδα. Πρώτα κάνω το σχέδιο σε χαρτί σε πραγματικές διαστάσεις, για την μελέτη των χρωμάτων και της ροής των ψηφίδων και μετά την κατασκευή η οποία είναι μια εργασία που θέλει χρόνο και υπομονή!
Tell us about your working space.
For now I work at home, I don’t need special equipment, only a desk and a lamp. The necessary tools are the Tile Nippers and tweezers to put in place every tile. First of all I have to draw the design in paper in real dimensions to study the colors and the flow of the tiles. Then I make the construction which takes time and needs patience!

Ποιο είναι το αγαπημένο σου εργαλείο;

Το αγαπημένο μου εργαλείο είναι το σφυρί που σπάμε τις μαρμάρινες ράβδους σε ψηφίδες, θέλει όμως εξάσκηση μέχρι να τα καταφέρεις να κόβεις ίδιες τις ψηφίδες! 

Which is your favorite tool?

My favorite tool is the hammer for breaking the marble tiles! It’s not easy but eventually you learn how to use it!

Έχεις κάποιον να σε βοηθάει στο κατάστημά σου στο Etsy;

Με το κατάστημα στο Etsy ασχολούμαι μόνη μου, αν και θα έλεγα ότι έχω υποστήριξη από τον φίλο μου, ο οποίος μου συμπαραστέκεται και με παροτρύνει και πρόσφατα άνοιξε το δικό του Etsy - κατάστημα για τα σχέδια του!    

Do you have somebody who helps you with your Etsy shop? 
Not really, I make everything by myself. Although I would like to mention that my boyfriend supports me a lot and recently made his own shop in Etsy for his designs!

Neon accents

Πολλές φορές ενα fashion trend περνάει απο το χώρο της μόδας στο χώρο της διακόσμησης. Αυτό συνέβη και με τα νέον. Τα έντονα αυτά χρώματα που αποτέλεσαν σημαντικό μέρος στο χώρο της μόδας έχουν περάσει στο χώρο του σπιτιού μας. Θα δούμε λοιπόν μερικές προτάσεις για το πως μπορούμε να υιοθετήσουμε αυτό το trend χωρίς να φαίνεται ξένο στο χώρο που ζούμε.
Sometimes a fashion trend crosses over from the fashion world to the world of home decoration. This is what happened to the neon colors trend. The bright colors were a significant part in the fashion industry and now have moved into our homes. So we'll take a look on how to adopt this trend in our own home without making it seem out of place.

Ξεκινάμε απο τον χώρο της κουζίνας όπου μπορούμε να βάλουμε μικρές πινελιές ζωηρών, νέον χρωμάτων προσθέτοντας μικρά αντικείμενα. Ένα έντονο χρωματικά σκαμνάκι θα κάνει όλη τη διαφορά, δίνοντας ζωή στην κουζίνα μας ενω προσθέτοντας και άλλα μικροαντικείμενα στο ίδιο χρώμα έχουμε ενα πιο ενοποιημένο ύφος.
Starting from the kitchen you can add a touch of neon adding for example a colorful stool that will make all the difference! Adding kitchen towels and other little gadgets in matching colors will give it a more cohesive look.

Δίνουμε νέα ζωή σε παλιές καρέκλες βάφοντάς τες με διαφορετικά χρώματα την κάθε μια, συνδυάζουμε έτσι δυο διαφορετικά στυλ και δημιουργούμε ενα νέο. Αυτή η mix and match προσέγγιση δημιουργεί ενα χώρο πολύχρωμο, όλο ζωή με επιρροές απο το παρελθόν και το παρόν.
Give old chairs a new life by painting each one with a different color, combining two styles to create a new one. This mix and match approach creates a new space colorful and full of life with influences from the past and the future.

Επιστροφή στο χώρο της διακόσμησης κάνουν και τα ρατάν έπιπλα και αυτά όμως επηρεάζονται απο το νέο αυτό στυλ. Έτσι μια ρατάν καρέκλα βαμμένη σε έντονο κίτρινο θα ξεχωρίσει, ειδικά αν τοποθετηθεί σε ένα δωμάτιο όπου κυριαρχεί η διχρωμία λευκού-μαυρου.
A returning decorating trend is rattan furniture but influenced from this new style as well. So a bright yellow rattan chair will definitely stand out especially when placed in a room where black and white colors are mostly used.

Μια ακόμα στυλάτη ιδέα εφαρμόζεται σε σπίτια όπου οι τοίχοι έχουν ήδη βαφτεί σε σκούρο ή γκρι χρώμα. Για να ελαφρύνει η ατμόσφαιρα προσθέστε ένα τραπέζι βαμμένο σε έντονο ροζ χρώμα,
δημιουργεί ενα πιο παιχνιδιάρικο ύφος.
Another stylish idea can be applied to a home with dark or grey colored walls. To lighten the mood don't hesitate to add a coffee table painted bright pink, it will give the room a playful, glamour vibe.

Τέλος μπορείτε να βάψετε ενα τοίχο με έντονα νέον χρώματα, όπως αυτό το φούξια ροζ. Συνδυασμένο με παλιά αντικείμενα δημιουργεί μια ενδιαφέρουσα γωνιά του σπιτιού. 
Finally you can paint a wall in bright neon colors like this hot pink used in the hallway. Combined with old furniture it creates an interesting spot in your home.

AW2012-13 Trend Report: Pump Up The Volume

Γεια σας! Είμαι η Χριστίνα (karmologyclinic) και από εδώ και στο εξής θα είμαι υπέυθυνη για τα μηνιαία άρθρα για τη μόδα στο μπλογκ της ελληνικής ομάδας του Etsy. Ας ξεκινήσουμε λοιπόν.


All of us from time to time have seen fashion shows and left with the mouth open and the phrase "who's gonna wear that!?" ready to pop out. It's true that many times fashion shows seem not to be directed to me and you. But if you look deeper in every collection, you'll see that there are elements and ideas there that each one of us could wear. So, from now on, for every trend that I'm gonna give you, we'll have two versions: xtreme and low-fat. Xtreme for those that feel brave and eccentric enough and low-fat for the rest who don't want people to stare at them at the street (except maybe to admire how well-dressed you are...) Ready? Let the games begin!

'Οπως κι εσείς, έτσι κι εγώ έχω παρακολουθήσει πολλές φορές επιδείξεις μόδας και έχω μείνει με το στόμα ανοιχτό και με το σχόλιο "καλά, τώρα ποιος το φοράει αυτό;!" έτοιμο. Η αλήθεια είναι πως πολλές φορές οι επιδείξεις μόδας μοιάζουν να μην απευθύνονται σε σένα και μένα. Αλλά αν ψάξει κανείς βαθύτερα σε κάθε κολεξιόν θα δει ότι υπάρχουν στοιχεία που μπορεί να τα ενσωματώσει στην γκαρνταρόμπα του εύκολα. Έτσι, για κάθε τάση που θα σας παρουσιάζω από εδώ και στο εξής θα υπάρχουν δύο διαβαθμίσεις: xtreme και low-fat. xtreme για όσες νιώθουν αρκετά εκκεντρικές και θαρραλέες και  low-fat για εμφανίσεις που δεν θα γυρνάνε κεφάλια (εκτός ίσως για να θαυμάσουν πόσο καλοντυμένες είστε...).  Έτοιμες; Ας πάιξουμε!


A prominent trend for Autumn-Winter 2012-13 is extra volume at the clothes. Volume at the shoulders, the hips, hourglass accentuated silhouette. Oversized coats and parkas with extended shoulders (round not with corners like in the 80s) were everywhere in most collections. Others were casual and others more dressy.

Μία τάση που ξεχώρισε για το φθινόπωρο-χειμώνα 2012-13 ήταν ο επιπλέον όγκος στα ρούχα. Όγκος στους ώμους, όγκος στους γοφούς, σιλουέτα με καμπύλες. Υπερμεγέθη παλτό και παρκά με ώμους που προεξέχουν (στρογγυλοί όμως χωρίς τις γωνίες των 80s) υπήρχαν στις κολεξιόν των περισσότερων σχεδιαστών με εκδοχές για καθημερινή χρήση αλλά και με πολυτελή υφάσματα για πιο επίσημα.

Next trends focuses on the hips. Usually most of us try to do the exact opposite (because they have convinced us that it's more beautiful, is it truly though?), but this winter, with the blessing of all designers, you can show or even accentuate your hips. You can do that in many ways: side seams that are shaped to stand away from the body(McQueen, Carven), wearing a peplum (Hakaan), using fabric design to attract attention to the area (Katrantzou) or, lastly, using a designer detail (Vionnet, Jil Sander).

Η επόμενη τάση τονίζει τους γοφούς. Συνήθως οι περισσότερες από εμάς προσπαθούμε να κάνουμε το ακριβώς αντίθετο (γιατί μας έχουν πείσει ότι αυτό είναι πιο όμορφο, είναι πράγματι όμως;), αλλά αυτό το χειμώνα μπορείτε με τη άδεια των περισσότερων σχεδιαστών, όχι μόνο να αποκαλύψετε αλλά και να τονίσετε την περιφέρεια σας. Οι τρόποι ποικίλουν: είτε πλαινές ραφές με σχήμα που προεξέχει (McQueen, Carven), είτε με peplum (Hakaan), είτε με το μοτίφ του υφάσματος που τραβάει την προσοχή (Katrantzou), είτε, τέλος, με κάποια σχεδιαστική λεπτομέρεια (Vionnet, Jil Sander).

Personal moment (we'll have one of those in each post): I'll admit it, I'm nuts over the last Vionnet dress with the red draping in the front, it's divine! (kudos to Barbara and Lucia Croce, designers of Vionnet at the moment)
Προσωπική στιγμή (θα έχουμε και από μία τέτοια σε κάθε post): Το ομολογώ, το τελευταίο φόρεμα Vionnet  με την κόκκινη λεπτομέρεια στους γοφούς με ενθουσιάζει περισσότερο απ΄ όσο επιτρέπεται, είναι καταπληκτικό.

EGST Craft Party 2012 - Athens, Greece

Περάσαμε μια πολύ όμορφη μέρα με πολλά σεμινάρια:
η AntigoniCreations μας έμαθε να φτιάχνουμε λουλουδάκια απο ύφασμα, η Creationsbyeve χρησιμοποιήσε νήμα απο T-shirt για να φτιάξουμε κοσμήματα οπώς βραχιολάκια, η WiremyTree μας έδειξε πως να φτιάχνουμε νερόμπομπες και καπελάκια με την τεχνική του origami, μαθαμε να κάνουμε decoupage με πολύχρωμες χαρτοπετσέτες απο τη LilaDiam, φτιάξαμε μαζί με την BlackRedDots πανέμορφα μίνι καπελάκια/fascinators, μαθαμε απο την Anta το kumihimo braiding εναν τρόπο για να δημιουργούμε πλεκτά κορδόνια και τέλος είδαμε μια πολύ ωραία παρουσίαση από την ErganiWeaving του πως μετατρέπουμε το ακατέργαστο μαλλί σε νήμα με τον κλωστικό τροχό! Στο χώρo υπήρχε μια ραπτομηχανή στην οποία πολλοί έκαναν τα πρώτα τους βήματα με την βοήθεια της έμπειρης Animadesign.

Το πάρτυ ξεκίνησε με πολλά μέλη μας να φτιάχνουν ζωντανά τις δημιουργίες τους δείχνοντας ο καθένας τον τρόπο που δουλεύουν αλλά και τα υλικά και εργαλεία που χρησιμοποιούν. Οι δημιουργίες τους αυτές μπήκαν στην συνέχεια στη κλήρωση για να μοιραστούν στο κοινό.

Συνολικά μαζέψαμε 80 δώρα απο τα μέλη της ομάδας τα οποία δόθηκαν με λαχνούς στον κόσμο που ήρθε να παρακολουθήσει, ενα πολύ ζωηρό πλήθος από 150 άτομα όλων των ηλικιών. Είδαμε μικρά παιδάκια που έπαιζαν με τα μπαλόνια ενώ οι μαμάδες τους μάθαιναν νέους τρόπους δημιουργίας, νέες και μεγαλύτερης ηλικίας γυναίκες έτοιμες να φτιάξουν με τα χέρια τους κάτι καινούργιο και εναν γενναίο κύριο που κάθησε στη ραπτομηχανή για πρώτη φορά!

Ευχαριστούμε πολύ και το σταθμό 9.84 και την εκπομπή της Μαρίας Παύλου "Δια Χειρός" για την διαφήμιση και στήριξη της εκδήλωσης!

Χαρήκαμε πολύ που βρεθήκαμε όλοι μαζί, περιμένουμε με ανυπομονησία την επόμενη συνάντηση!

We had a great day filled with workshops:
we learned how to make flowers using fabric, needle and thread from Antigonicreations, CreationsbyEve showed us how to make yarn from a T-shirt, recycling clothes we no longer wear and used it to make cute bracelets and other jewelry, WiremyTree showed us how to make water balloons and paper hats using the origami folding technique, we learned how to decoupage objects using colorful napkins from LilaDiam, we made super cute mini hats/fascinators with the instructions and help of BlackredDots, we were shown the kumihimo braiding technique which creates colorful braided cords from Anta and saw a wonderful presentation from ErganiWeaving on turning raw wool into spinning fiber with the use of a spinning wheel. We had a sewing machine where a lot of people made their first attempts with the help of Animadesign, an experienced member of the team.

The party started with our members creating live, showcasing the way they work as well as the tools and materials they use.Their creations were entered in the lottery, to be given away to the people attending the party.

We collected 80 presents from our team members which were given away using raffle tickets to the people attending, a very lively crowd of 150 people of all ages. There were small children playing with balloons while their moms learned new ways of creating things, older and younger women ready to create using imagination and their hands and a very brave man who sat at the sewing machine for the first time!

We want to thank Athens radio station 9.84 for their publicity and support of this event! 

It was great seeing you all there, lots of smiling faces and working hands, people happy to talk, learn and have fun! We can't wait for the next time!
